the Real Jesus: week 2

There's a lot I could do in review here. But, I thought it would be more fun to open things up to everyone. We are working on a new blog format that allows forums. In other words, we won't be limited to only the things the preacher puts on here.  But, until then, we are limited...

So, feel free to throw out a question, comment, funny story etc. whether related to the series or not.

Some thoughts to get us going. What is your testimony? What are your doubts? Where have you seen God show up? Where have you missed Him? Of course, feel free to go anywhere, just thought those would be interesting things to hear from you all.

1 - Someone asked me the other day - do I work like Jesus would work? I surely don't consider myself dishonest and our company prides itself on integrity but if I think about EVERY action there surely are some decisions that if Jesus were doing my job, I'm not sure that he'd make the same choice. Does this convict me or do I just continue along? And if the decision is better for business but not in line with scripture - how would you even bring this up in a non-christian workplace?

2 - I was invited to lunch by a co-worker a few months ago to a biblestudy/lunch at my workplace. It's not something that's really advertised but people find out about it and show up. Its not something I would typically do either because I've also been more of a type of person who compartmentalizes my moments of "God talk" and typically I'm not doing much talking - especially about God to strangers. (Despite the amount of entries it seems I make to this blogger board, and those are mostly me just trying to figure out the stuff I don't have a clue.)

It's been a blessing to see God at "work". If anywhere God needs to be is in the conference rooms of larger corporations. We all don't really know each other or really ever interact with each other as most of us work in other areas of our company however once a week it has been interesting to hear thoughts, discuss differences, figure out what parts of the bible people are really passionate about, pray with people and see these people in such a different setting.

Sometimes its easy to get bogged down with one more meeting and surely work needs to get done and I'm not condoning e-mailing during the workday, but if you have to eat anyhow and take a "break" the relating we do with each other (even as mostly strangers) - that's an investment of time that has truly been a door I'm glad I opened.

It sounds so cheesy but I truly believe God has worked on my heart and allowed me to cross paths and develop conversations and then relationships with people who have come to support me through some difficult moments in these last few months.

It can be so easy to just quietly live life without interaction with people, especially when you are single, an obsessed workaholic, live alone and your family lives two states away. We are so busy that often the few friendships we do develop sometimes take a backseat to the busyiness we make in life.

I don't think communicating with others the way Jesus would has to include a blatent bible verse or some sort of deep philosophical meaning of life. I've been known to consider this whole relating thing a "them" against "us" situation and well, I don't wonder if approaching it just as an "us" makes conversations a whole lot less complicated? The conversations I've had with people lately that have led to the most interesting relevations of faith sharing have started just talking about life or what was on tv last night. Of course I orginally intended on writing about the idea of approaching conversations in the workplace but if its a sticky situation, I'm just not entirely sure how I'd approach that either. (Comment this)

3 - With all the hoopla about the DaVinci Code - will it be a movie you attend? Why or why not? I have to admit I must have lived under a rock the last several years the book's been out but I don't know much about what it's about. (Comment this)

4 - If I am an objective person I would say that the DaVinci Code looks like a very well done movie. But I can not support it with my money. I can get books, go to talks etc that will inform me on how to talk to people who see it and believe it. (Comment this)

5 - I might be inclined to see it. Looking at something cinematically, I rather enjoy Ron Howard's film making creativity. That said, I think I may wait and at least arm myself with some more knowledge about the book and "decoding" it, as I haven't read it, and if I go with friends it might make for interesting conversation.

I still go back to gnaw on something a guest preacher said months ago - does exposure lead to complacency? I've got to admire lines that are drawn that aren't crossed for the sake of commitment.
