Angels and Demons V

This was our last week on this topic. Please continue the discussion on the last post here, or share any more thoughts you might have on Angels and Demons in general. There were a lot of questions people asked after the service. I thought this could be a place to continue asking those.

Today we focused on discernment. How do you know what is a spirit or teaching from God and what is not. Some key points are...

you can't know what is fake unless you are familiar with what is for real

despite what culture tell us there is a one sure and certain truth and it must be defended

False teaching comes just as often from within the church world as it does from without. That is why Jesus says so often to be on your guard.

We must know the word not just rely on someone else's rendition.

Any other thoughts please share them.

5 - In the middle of the bulletin there are suggestions for reading / verses / websites and I happened to misplace my bulletin and I wondered perhaps if other people might run into the same thing? I don't know if its possible but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. (Comment this)

7 - The existence of the angelic and demonic realm is part of the ordinary teaching of the Church, clearly reaffirmed by Popes Paul VI and John Paul II. In fact, when we say in the Creed that we believe in the Creator of heaven and earth, “of all things visible and invisible,” the invisible things refer precisely to that realm.

So why is it important to believe that such creatures exist? Because the first rule of warfare is to know your enemy. Paul tells us clearly in Ephesians 6:12, “Our battle is not against human forces but against the principalities and powers...the evil spirits.”

Only God has power over this world. Jesus, in commanding the demons, as He later in the Gospel commands the wind and the waves, does what only God can do. Once we are joined to Christ, the enemy has no more authority or power over us. Unless, of course, we give it to him through sin. If we cling to the Lord and listen to Him, we have nothing to worry about. If not, we have lots to worry about.

8 - Being on your Guard and ever more grounded in the Word is surely necessary. Brian Flynn's thoughts about New Age and Eastern Spirituality really was something I hadn't even considered. And I can totally see how it can seep into a church setting without realizing the harm.

Something that seems so tame and balanced and the idea that the same sorts of methods are what he channeled to contact demonic spirit guides - well, YIKES!

I personally use some New Age health remedies to assist with a health problem and because they have helped where no medicine has been able to i'm not entirely sure what to do with this latest knowledge other than to be on my guard.

Do you ever wonder if demons lurk around people more open to New Age or Eastern Spirituality because they are already channeling into the same network? (Comment this)

9 - Yes, I believe the fallen angels (demons) can come around if you fool around channeling to a spirit guide. Like I said it took me 3 years to read or meditate on the scriptures and the Lord taught me many things. Even though I was a Christian; in my youth I didn't believe that Satan existed. After studying the scriptures; I wrote in the back of my Bible everywhere Satan was actively invloved from Old Testament to New Testatment. I don't fear him or his fallen angels, because if I sense evil near me I take authority of what scripture tells me to do. I just say, "I am covered with the blood of Jesus and In the Name of Jesus I command you to go." Belive me there is power in Jesus Christ's Name.

Let us not forget the great commission of what Jesus said to do in Mark 16:15-18 "Go into all the world and preach the good news (Jesus) to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe in me. In my Name (Jesus) they will drive out demons; (note: we cannot drive out demons only Jesus can that is why we use his Name; there is Power in the name of Jesus); they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
This does not mean we handle poisonous snakes or drink water with poison in it. Example Acts 28:3-10 Paul was gathering firewood and a poisonous snake bit him. Verse 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing, unusual happen to him. God protects the missionaries on the mission field when they pray for God's blessing on the food and drink. I have heard true stories where they had eated poisonous meat or dran poisonous water and they lived. Yes, sometime missionaries are marytered Like in the movie "End of the Spear". If it is still playing In Oakdale I recommend seeing it. It is a powerful movie of 5 missionaries marytered in 1956 in the rainforest near Quito, Equador. Even though the missionaries had guns on them, their goal was that these people be brought to eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Mark this on your calendar, March 5 in the Library at Woodbury Lutheran during Sunday School. The video series by Dean Sherman on "SPIRITUAL WARFARE" will be shown. This is for 12 sessions and Mary Shepperd will be facilitating.

I have had acupunture for my sinus and a very dear friend of mine who was a very devoted Christian also had acupunture when she had cancer. It helped to reduce the pain. The cancer had gone to her bones. I was paralyzed from the waiste down in 1997. It took me 3 years to get my walking back, but I work out at Life Time Fitness and do yoga type stretching for my tight muscles. Sometime we just have to use good old common sense.

I was at church today and found a Feb 5 bulletin

Bible: Romans 13:11-14; Galations 5:22-23; I Timothy 4:1; John 17:15-17; I John 2:18-29; II John 1;7-11; I Corinthians 12;10-11; Deuteronomy 18:9-12

Books: The Invisible war by Chip Ingram; What's the Deal with Wicc? by Steve Russo; Victory Over Darkness by Neil T. Anderson (many years ago my husband and I taught this to the adult class-Judy)

Hope this helps; I am glad I found Feb 5's bulletin. (Comment this)
