Sunday the 21st

Thanks to Dean Dunavan for speaking this last Sunday.  I have not gotten a chance to listen to the entire message yet, but wanted to let anyone respond who felt the urge.

1 - Can't tell you the number of times this week that little voice in my head repeated "Love the Lord with the whole of your MIND".

Ah, some days, to do so takes the rest of the verse - with all of your strength. (Comment this)

2 - Dean, I really enjoyed listening to your sermon. I was really challenged by everything you said.

One comment I would like to make is on the mental hygiene. Out society has basically innundated our children with things that I think are totally inappropriate. I see and hear things that I would have been embarassed about as a kid, and these kids today are immune to this stuff.

I think everything is becoming watered down and acceptable to our society. It's ok to watch that because it's on prime-time TV so it must be okay. It's okay to listen to that because it's on all the radio stations and they listen to it during gym class in school or play it at the school dance so it must be ok.

I find it very challenging to try to re-teach my children what is acceptable and not acceptable in my eyes - in God's eyes.

The second thing I would like to talk about has come up quite often with some friends of mine. Dean talked about don't expect to grow as a Christian if you're not in the word. Of course, I believe that is obvious. you can't grow in any aspect of your life if you're not reading, studying, learning, asking.

My question goes more along the lines of this: Are you a Christian if you don't study the word?? I mean, there are people out there who are going to church week after week after week and have never opened their bibles. They say they are Christians, and lucky for everyone, I don't have to decide. But as Christian shouldn't we hunger for the word? Shouldn't we want to know Him?

and yes, we all go through a drought period in our life. But I was raised in a church, in a home that did not have a bible. I considered myself a Christian, I knew all the answers, but I have come to realize there is more to it than what I was taught. But what about people who believe but don't study, learn, seek?
