Acts 19: Plastic

Today we talked about living a real faith. Knowing and pursuing God with all that you are. It is too easy to know all the right things to do, say and act. But, the real turning of the heart is much more challenging. The challenge today is to not be content with plastic faith. That is, faith that is surface. Faith that doesn't demand something of you. What is God asking of you? What does it look like to not just know of but truly know God in a living and active way. What does that mean for the rest of our lives? What do you think?

1 - Thought I would check out this "blog thing" after encouragement from Ben this morning. I continue to be so moved by the recent Genesis sermons. I truly do not feel "comfortable" and feel that nagging "itch" when I leave worship. I feel such emotion and power in that place and then overwhelmed by what now-- how do I keep this alive and make it real in my life? It makes me look at big hard questions, like my job, my friends, my community. Am I listening to how God wants me to serve in those places? Or do I go back to my "sorcery" the rest of the week? I pray that this itch will continue and that the wisdom and courage will come to me. Thanks again to Ben for bravery in the sermons. Praising the Man whom you serve--not the man.
Have a good week

2 - My thought today after church was this: its great to be in worship with a whole bunch of seeking people whose energy feeds the hungry soul. :) A lot of us may be struggling and overwhelmed with ways to truly live out a God-centered life, but in looking around its kind of nice to see a movement towards something GOOD when the world is so full of distractions.

(Somehow I see myself in my cubicle at work on Monday chuckling at the "sorcery" comment as there are many Mondays when I feel like I'm trying to conquer the "dark side".)

Jennifer, I appreciate your thoughts and quite sincerely I hope you are able to find more ways to continue to extend the emotion and power of God presence in your life outside of Genesis. We all can use a bit of encouragement from each other which is one of the great things about this blog. (Comment this)

3 - If one of the ways to tend and grow your faith is to just "go to the source", do any of you have any suggestions of particular books of the bible to study? (I'm not looking for a checklist rather merely suggestions of where to start.) (Comment this)

4 - In answer to the last comment. Phillipians and/or Ephesians are my two favorites. If you're looking to follow the life of Jesus I often recommend the book of John. (Comment this)
